Ariadne Daskalakis ist amerikanische Geigerin griechischer Herkunft. Während der Entwicklung ihrer Karriere als moderne Geigerin, barocke Geigerin und Pädagogin spielte sie als Solistin mit Orchestern wie dem Sinfonieorchester des BR München, den Dortmunder Philharmonikern, der Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln, dem Norwegischen Barockorchester, der Kammerakademie Potsdam, dem English Chamber Orchestra und dem Athener Nationalorchester. Als Solistin und gleichzeitig als Leiterin arbeitete sie mit Ensembles wie den Stuttgarter, den Prager und den Kölner Kammerorchestern - mit diversen CD-Aufnahmen wie Tartini- und Vivaldi Violinkonzerten. Eine enge Verbindung entstand mit dem Ensemble Orion Berlin und dem Neuen Rheinischen Kammerorchester, sowie mit der Kölner Akademie unter Michael Alexander Willens. Mit dem Stuttgarter Kammerorchester nahm sie Streicherkonzerte von Vivaldi auf, “7 with one Stroke”, veröffentlicht beim Label Tacet.

Sie konzentriert sich auf Aufführungspraxis der Epochen von Barock bis Modern, und wurde als “Universalspezialistin” vom Mitteldeutschen Radio gelobt. Zu ihrer Aufnahme der Biber Rosenkranz-Sonaten berichtete Early Music America: "mit dieser Veröffentlichung gehört sie zur ersten Riege der Barockgeiger".

Sie war Preisträgerin des Internationalen ARD-Wettbewerbs München sowie weiterer Preise in den USA und Deutschland, ausgezeichnet zum Beispiel von der Harvard Musical Society und der Dortmunder Mozart-Gesellschaft. Zahlreiche Aufnahmen belegen das breite Spektrum ihres Repertoires und den Reichtum ihrer musikalischen Erfahrungen, wie die Rosenkranz-Sonaten von H.I.F. Biber, Kalliwodas Violinkonzerte, sämtliche Violinsonaten von Händel, Fauré und Raff, Violinkonzerte von Tartini, und Werke von Lutoslawski, Janacek und Szymanowski. Sie spielte bei BIS die Gesamtwerke für Violine von Franz Schubert ein, zusammen mit Paolo Giacometti am Fortepiano und mit der Kölner Akademie unter Michael Alexander Willens. Diese Aufnahmen, außergewöhnlich wegen der Wahl der historischen Instrumenten, erhielten großartige Resonanz, zB vom Strad Magazine, von Klassik heute (10/10 und CD der Woche) und Diapason (5/5). Violinist Ariadne Daskalakis is critically acclaimed for her expressive sound and her stylistic versatility. At home on the international stage, she has performed in venues ranging from Boston's Jordan Hall and Gardner Museum and New York's Carnegie Recital Hall to the Gulbenkian Center in Lisbon, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Paris, the Rudolfinum Prague, the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, the Dortmund Konzerthaus, the Munich Herkules Hall and the Berlin Philharmonie and the Athens Megaron. She has appeared as soloist with the Munich BR Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Academy of Ancient Music Berlin, the Kammerakademie Potsdam, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Athens National State Orchestra, the Tirana Radio Orchestra, Concerto Köln and the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra. Recently she has concertized with the Kölner Akademie, the Cologne Sinfonietta and the Bach Virtuosi Festival Orchestra. In the dual role of leader and soloist Ariadne Daskalakis has collaborated with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Chamber Orchestra and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra. She collaborated closely with Ensemble Oriol Berlin and more recently with the New Rhine Chamber Orchestra.

A specialist in performance practice ranging from baroque to modern, she was hailed by German MDR Radio as a “universal specialist” for her recording of Vivaldi Concerti with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra on the label Tacet. Benjamin Dunham of Early Music America wrote of her Biber Sonatas: "With this release, Daskalakis propels herself into the front rank of historical violinists."

Ariadne Daskalakis won prizes at the International ARD-Munich Competition and the St. Louis Symphony Strings Competition, as well as from the Mozart Society Dortmund, the Harvard Music Association and Framingham State University, which awarded her the first Christa McAuliffe Medal. An avid chamber musician, she led the Manon Quartet Berlin for 10 years. She performs regularly as recitalist or, on baroque violin, with her Ensemble Vintage Köln, with which she recorded the complete Handel Sonatas for Naxos, the complete Rosary Sonatas by Biber for the label BIS and Bach's "Musical Offering" for Tacet/Eigenart. She has also released on BIS the complete violin works by Franz Schubert, together with Paolo Giacometti on fortepiano and with the Kölner Akademie under Michael Alexander Willens. This set, on BIS, unique partly thanks to the choice of original instruments, has received glowing reviews from the Strad magazine, Klassik heute (10/10 and CD of the week) and Diapason (5/5).

Numerous further recordings document the broad spectrum of her repertoire and the rich depth of her musical experiences. These include the Complete Violin Sonatas by Handel, Fauré and Raff, Violin Concerti by Tartini and 20th century works by Lutoslawski, Janacek and Szymanowski (on the labels Naxos, Carpe Diem and Tudor). Her Handel and Tartini recordings were both Selections of the Month in the The Strad magazine. Further recordings with period instruments present sonatas by Ferdinand Ries and violin concerti by Jan Kalliwoda and Bernhard van Bree on the label cpo.

Mit zeitgenössischen Komponisten hat sie neue Werke und Genres erarbeitet, wie Caspar Johannes Walters Violinkonzert Zeichnungen, Christoph Coburgers “Opera Mono” Herr K und Frau N mit Videoinstallation und Uraufführungen von Thierry Tidrow und Sebastian Gottschick. Mehr als zehn Jahre lang spielte sie mit dem Manon Quartett Berlin, sowohl barockes und klassisches Repertoire auf historischen Instrumenten, als auch romantische und zeitgenössische Werke. Sie ist Mitbegründerin des Ensemble Vintage Köln.

Genreübergreifend arbeitete sie mit Ruth Padel (Autorin), Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaiso Esnaola (Choreograf), Antonio Ruz (Tänzer), Sabine Mader (Bühne) und Christian Kleinert (Schauspiel). Bei mehreren Projekten arbeitete sie mit dem Musiker und Tänzer/Choreograf Yves Ytier zusammen.

Sie arbeitet zusammen mit der Wiener Urtext Edition bei der neuen Urtext-Ausgabe der Violinsonaten von Ludwig van Beethoven. Band I wurde in 2023 veröffentlicht; Band II ist in Arbeit.

Ariadne Daskalakis genoss eine humanistische und musikalische Ausbildung an der Juilliard School, der Harvard University und der Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Ihre Lehrer waren Eric Rosenblith, Szymon Goldberg, Ilan Gronich und Thomas Brandis. Ein weiterer wichtige Mentor war Eugen Lehner, Bratscher des Kolisch-Quartettes. Sie ist eine viel gefragte Pädagogin und Professorin an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Zur Zeit ist sie dort auch Prorektorin. Sie war Jurorin beim Internationalen Wettbewerb der ARD München, beim Internationalen Isang-Yun Wettbewerb und als Vorsitzende beim Internationalen Musikwettbewerb Köln.

2012 gründete sie das Internationale Festival “Music from Land’s End” in Cape Cod, USA. Seit 2015 leitete sie mehrere Projekte an der Europäischen Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst Palazzo Ricci Montepulciano, deren Künstlerische Leitung sie seit 2022 innehat.

Ehemalige Studenten von Ariadne Daskalakis haben feste Stellen etwa beim WDR Sinfonieorchester und dem WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln, dem NDR Hannover, dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, dem Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, dem Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, dem Sinfonieorchester Aachen und beim Badischen Staatstheater Karlsruhe. Weiter betreute sie Preisträger internationaler Wettbewerben in Deutschland, Italien, Spanien und Japan.

Sie spielte Instrumente von A. Stradivari, G.B. Guadagnini, Peter Wamsley und Marc De Sterke. Seit 2022 spielt sie eine Violine von Julia Pasch.

Ariadne Daskalakis also collaborates with composers, exploring new music and genres, like Caspar Johannes Walter’s Violin Concerto Zeichnungen and Christoph Coburger’s “Opera Mono” Herr K und Frau N, a staged solo work with video installation. She has recently premiered works by Thierry Tidrow and Sebastian Gottschick. With the Academy of Ancient Music Berlin she performed as soloist in the Vivaldi Four Seasons in “4x4”, in which dancer Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola choreographed the soloist and the whole ensemble.

She has explored further interdisciplinary collaboration with dancer Antonio Ruz, stage designer Sabine Mader, actor Christian Kleinert and, on numerous occasions, musician and dancer/choreographer Yves Ytier. The author Ruth Padel wrote poems for Ariadne Daskalakis and Ensemble Vintage Köln to accompany performances of the complete Biber Rosary Sonatas. These were commissioned by Francis Humphreys of the International Chamber Music Festival in Cork, Ireland, and premiered in 2023.

Together with the esteemed music publishing house Wiener Urtext Edition Ariadne is currently working on a new Urtext Edition of the Violin Sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven. Band I was released in 2023; Band II is still in progress.

A former student of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, Ariadne Daskalakis enjoyed an education in music and humanities at the Juilliard School, Harvard University and the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. She is Professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (Conservatory for Music and Dance) Cologne and is currently Vice-President there. She has also taught as guest at projects at the Juilliard School, the Eastman School of Music and various other international institutions and festivals. She has served on the juries of the ARD International Music Competition, the Isang Yun Competition and the Cologne International Music Competition (as Jury Chair).

Former students have positions in fine orchestras including the WDR Symphony and WDR Rundfunk Orchestras Cologne, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Aachen Opera and the Karlsruhe State Theatre, among others. Prizes have been awarded to her students at international competitions in Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan.

In 2012 Ariadne Daskalakis founded “Music from Land’s End,” an international summer chamber music festival in Wareham, Massachusetts. Since 2015 she has been responsible for numerous projects at the European Academy for Music and Art Palazzo Ricci Montepulciano. She became Artistic Director of the Academy in 2022.

Ariadne Daskalakis is based in Cologne. She has enjoyed the stewardship of violins by A. Stradivari, G.B. Guadagnini, Peter Wamsley and Marc De Sterke. Since 2022 she plays a violin by Julia Pasch.

Σήμερα είναι καθηγήτρια στο Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (Ακαδημία Μουσικής και Χορού) της Κολωνίας και αυτή τη στιγμή κατέχει τη θέση του αντιπρύτανη. Έχει επίσης διδάξει ως προσκεκλημένη στο Juilliard School, στο Eastman School of Music και σε διάφορα άλλα διεθνή ιδρύματα και φεστιβάλ. Έχει συμμετάσχει στην κριτική επιτροπή του Διεθνούς Μουσικού Διαγωνισμού ARD, του Διαγωνισμού Isang Yun και του Διεθνούς Μουσικού Διαγωνισμού της Κολωνίας (ως πρόεδρος της κριτικής επιτροπής).

Πρώην μαθητές της έχουν κατακτήσει θέσεις σε εκλεκτές ορχήστρες, όπως η WDR Symphony and WDR Rundfunk Orchestras Cologne, η Orchester Philharmonique de Luxembourg, η Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, η Beethoven Orchester Bonn, η Όπερα του Άαχεν και το Κρατικό Θέατρο της Καρλσρούης. Βραβεία έχουν επίσης απονεμηθεί σε μαθητές της σε διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς στη Γερμανία, την Ιταλία, την Ισπανία και την Ιαπωνία.

Το 2012 η Αριάδνη Δασκαλάκης ίδρυσε το «Music from Land’s End», ένα διεθνές καλοκαιρινό φεστιβάλ μουσικής δωματίου στο Wareham της Μασαχουσέτης. Από το 2015 είναι υπεύθυνη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ακαδημίας Μουσικής και Τέχνης Palazzo Ricci Montepulciano, ενώ από το 2022 αποτελεί καλλιτεχνική διευθύντρια της ακαδημίας.

Η Αριάδνη Δασκαλάκη εδρεύει στην Κολωνία. Έχει ερμηνεύσει πάνω σε βιολιά γνωστών κατασκευαστών όπως οι A. Stradivari, G.B. Guadagnini, Peter Wamsley και Marc De Sterke. Από το 2022 παίζει σε βιολί της Julia Pasch.
